Homemade Curtains and Hair Goodies!

Hello friends! I apologize for the lack of updates. I've been super duper busy these past couple days. Here is what I have accomplished so far:

I decided to sew my own curtains for the kitchen. Our kitchen has a Mexican Folk theme and I scored some Dia De Los Muertos material. I couldn't believe how expensive it was per yard, but it was surely worth it!

How about that?

Leftover material? Hmmmmm......

Ah yes! What a marvelous idea!

And for the little girly girls....

I think they turned out pretty cute. I individually sewed them onto felt material and added little bows and clips to the back! Golden!

Antiquing and Rum Bar

So happy that my husband was able to have the day off and enjoy it with Phoebe and I yesterday. We ventured out in oldtown Glendale where we browsed through some antique stores. I picked up a fantastic black feather headpiece from the 20's. I'll have pictures of that soon.

We spotted this 59' Chevy Brookwood wagon.

I burnt my hands on the door! It was so freakin hot!!

Apparently, I was sporting a Debbie Gibson look.

RUM BAR NIGHT!

Last night our friend Wendy joined us for the opening of the Rum Bar downtown. The bar is apart of the most amazing Jamaican restaurant, The Breadfruit. The owners built on a great bar with a great selection of aged rum. Free rum tasting and  ital hors'dourves! Yummies!

I on the other hand, dressed it up a bit which was really exciting for me!

I was kinda going for a 20's flapper theme with the headpiece and black beaded costume jewelry, but it doesn't really look that way.

What a good night!

Madwoman Wednesdays

So, there's this new place downtown called The Duce. I have yet to check it out. Apparently they have a serious vintage motif going on and an old 40's bus on display outside. Anyway, every Wednesday is Madwoman Wednesday where they have a happy hour for all woman from 4-7 serving classic cocktails. My partner in crime Karen, who is a lover of the show Madmen and a 60's Mod guru, are going to check it out next Wednesday. And you know we're going to do it up Madwoman style!

Eat your heart out Mrs. Draper.

I've been dying to find a special occasion to wear this dress. My mother in law bought it for me at Ann Taylor when I was just barely pregnant. She's so sweet. She said she wanted me to have it so that I have something to look forward to wear after I have the baby. I love her!

I picked this up at Buffalo Exchange today. I thought it was kinda cute too. It was on sale for 5 bucks. I couldn't resist a bargain.

Man, I really need to get a tri-pod! :)

Cheers to all you Madwomen out there!

Bedhead and Crafts

Hello friends! I've been trying to find ways to make it easier for me to get ready in the mornings. A little about my routine... I take showers at night and don't wash my hair every day. My hair has a natural curl to it when it air dries. I would usually blowdry my hair before I went to bed, but that's too much work and is very time consuming. So, last night I experimented. I went to bed with towel dried hair. I didn't comb it out, but scrunched it.

Here's what it looked like in the morning.

I scrunched my hair with Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Scrunching gel. I used a generous amount.

It literally took me two minutes. I also topped it off with hairspray. Ta-daaaaa!

So Phoebe and I went to the fabric store today. I saw this cute handmade fringe necklace in InStyle magazine and I really wanted to make it. So I did!

I attached it to a black chain. What do you think? Would you rock it?

Here's also something else I threw together.

Crafty!

White Swan vs. Black Swan

Ok, I love the movie Black Swan with Natalie Portman and Vincent Cassel. I also love ballerinas. I used to take ballet when I was little and in high school. I loved it. The beauty, the moves, the pointe slippers, and the tutus. Here's my version of the Black Swan and White Swan looks. They're pretty subtle, so it would be a fun look to pull off when you're going out to dinner. I just love the fact that I can just put my hair up in a bun and go run errands and still look half way decent.

A simple white feather headband (Target) gives a White Swan look.

Whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite!!

Seductive (not really) Black Swan

You can't tell, because this picture really sucks, but the hair clips have little black feathers on them with little beaded embellishments. I also applied a shimmery black eyeshadow from Ulta on the crease of my eyelid and black eyeliner on my lower lid. I blended the eyeliner for a smokey look.

Ballerina Nails! I LOVE this color. No. 17 from Ulta. Kind of a pinkish nude color.

Get the ballerina Look!

I admit, I did go out and buy some shirts and sweaters in pink and grey. In the movie Black Swan, Natalie Portman's character Nina Sayers often wears comfy clothes and a pair of grey Uggs. I've always hated Uggs! For one, they look like eskimo boots and I sure don't see any igloos in Phoenix! And two, I can't stand the girls that where them. However, I bought a pair of knock off ones in Black and once I put them on, I fell in love! I wear them everywhere now. Anyway, it's only for the comfort factor and they are super convenient and for a Momma with a 5 month old baby, that means A LOT!

Till next time my sweets!

I hate to brag...

My Husband takes amazing photos. He could take a picture of dirt and it would come out looking amazing. I'm jealous. On that note, I'm still in shock that on February 6th, which is just in a matter of a few weeks, will be our 1 year anniversary. It's hard to believe that this time last year, we found out that were having a baby. After 6 months of planning a wedding, we were surprised that we were going to be a Mommy and Daddy too! Anyway, here is some of my husbands amazing work of Phoebe, our 5 month old.
